• Replacement card: bring an unexpired photo ID and proof of citizenship (birth certificate or passport). Originals, not photocopies.
• Applying for benefits: bring your birth certificate and recent pay stubs or W-2s if you have them.
• Skip the trip if you can: benefit letters, address changes, and card replacement (in most states) can be done free at ssa.gov.
